Kenansville, NC - On November 14, sophomore students in the Duplin Health Sciences Academy took an important step toward their future careers during a pre-shadowing Career Exploration Day at ECU Health Duplin Hospital. The event offered students an up-close look at the wide range of professions that support patient care each day.

Throughout the visit, students met with professionals from multiple hospital departments, learning how each team contributes to safe, high-quality healthcare. Staff members shared their educational pathways, daily responsibilities, and the real-world skills essential for success in today’s medical field with information that directly supports the district’s STEAMA focus on connecting classroom learning with future career opportunities.

A highlight of the day came when the ECU Health EastCare helicopter crew landed on site to speak with students. The critical care air service team discussed their specialized training, rapid response work, and the advanced emergency care they provide across the region. Students had the opportunity to ask questions and see firsthand the level of teamwork and expertise required in high-pressure medical situations.

The experience not only broadened students’ understanding of healthcare careers but also strengthened their excitement for upcoming job-shadowing opportunities. Duplin County Schools is grateful to ECU Health Duplin Hospital and the EastCare team for their continued partnership in helping students explore pathways to future success.
